In defense of a DJ - Jack White is too full of himself
This is just ridiculous. A certain level of eccentricity is almost expected from musicians. But to get so bent out of shape about a radio station promoting your album - to the point where you felt you had to call the DJ, and tell her that she’s part of the reason for making things “messed up for the entire (music) business.” - give. me. a. break.
I’m a big fan of Jack White’s music - but as a person, after this - he can kiss my ass. I’m not surprised that the record industry won’t listen to Trent Reznor, but when other artists don’t even pay attention…

Jack White wasn’t upset that the DJ was promoting his album, he was upset that she leaked his music early (in my opinion, I certainly don’t know him). In this day of internet, mp3, etc. I think that it was very irresponsible of the radio station to play the album early (several weeks early at that) especially in its entirety. Sounds like she was promoting the radio station as much as the White Stripes…and here we all are writing about it, so I guess it worked. Albums have release dates for a reason and as a member of the music industry, I would think the DJ would respect that. I don’t think that Jack should be crucified for being upset.

That’s actually very much a part of my point - in this day and age of leaks, mp3 and the Internet, if he didn’t want his album ‘leaked’ early, he shouldn’t have had his PR and marketing folks send it out to radio stations. Doing that makes it inevitable. The only people who think that leaks hurt albums sales are the RIAA. He should have considered it for what it was - free (and huge) publicity.

I’m divided. I talked with Spike on this and wrote about our interview on my website.
I could see why Jack White would be pissed. People heard his album and now they wont but it…becuase it sucks.
