What the hell?

Luther Dickinson, lead guitarist and vocalist for the North Mississippi All Stars, joins the Black Crowes? And one of the tracks on the upcoming Crowes release “Warpaint” is “Whoa Mule”? What the hell is going on? All in all a very cool addition to the Crowes, but if this means less NMAS touring or recording, I’ll be a bit bummed.

And in completely unrelated news, Grady is playing Vancouver and Victoria, and I just found out about it. Thanks for nothing Pollstar. And I’m on the Grady mailing list (at least I thought). Regardless, the Vancouver show wasn’t sold out and I’ve got my ticket now. Not sure about Victoria I’m just going to show up and hope it’s not sold out. Plus Gordie’s doing an in-store thing @ Vancouver’s Long & McQuade (not the one on Hastings in the DTES).

There are no words… Nine Inch Nails Noëls

All you can do is listen for yourself.. Honestly, that’s fucked up. And if nothing else, listen until they do “Closer” (it’s towards the end).

What’s worse?

The Eagles releasing their album with a Walmart campaign or the Sex Pistols performance on Leno? Sid is rolling in his grave right now.

Shit.. sorry

To the six of you plus my mum (hi mum) who read this blog - please accept my sincere apologies for the complete and utter lack of posting for the last two weeks. I’ve been in ‘other site’ hell - my popular’ish (that’s how I’m currently defining its success) blog has been forcing the entire focus of my time and attention. I’ll update this one w/ a bunch of real posts (the kind with music or video) soon I promise. ish.

Some good news (for me, you couldn’t care less) - Two Gallants are playing Vancouver, BC in mid-Sept. This is such fantastic news as I missed them the last time they played here. And assuming I still live here come November, which is looking more and more like it will be the case, Ben Harper is playing @ The Orpheum . Tickets might be tough to get but I’ve already got a Ben Harper user/pass for the presale site and I setup a Google Calendar reminder for the presale date, cause I’m forgetful. Fingers crossed.

Just a quick update

  • The Bonnaroo 2007 Torrents and Downloads post is about to fall off the front page. That doesn’t mean I won’t keep updating it (over 30 updates so far, even though as of this second it’s only labeled as 28, I got lazy a few times). Bookmark it or something, the URL won’t change. And yes, the second I find the Flaming Lips or Rodrigo y Gabriela sets I will post them. Thanks to those of you who have sent links via the contact me form and/or in the comments.
  • The Derek Trucks 6/24/07 post now has a link to the bittorrent and a couple of MP3s from the show. Many, many thanks to dorrcoq for taping. I’ll be sure to post some MP3s of the Victoria, BC show too, once he uploads it (and of course a link to the torrent).
  • This month (June) has seen Rock Music Daily’s “most visitors” and “most page views” - so thanks to all of you!

This is just a quick ‘congratulations’ to Justin, who officially became a Google employee today.

In defense of a DJ - Jack White is too full of himself

This is just ridiculous. A certain level of eccentricity is almost expected from musicians. But to get so bent out of shape about a radio station promoting your album - to the point where you felt you had to call the DJ, and tell her that she’s part of the reason for making things “messed up for the entire (music) business.” - give. me. a. break.

I’m a big fan of Jack White’s music - but as a person, after this - he can kiss my ass. I’m not surprised that the record industry won’t listen to Trent Reznor, but when other artists don’t even pay attention…

The following has nothing to do with music, I just found it extremely funny.

Never Have To Mow Your Lawn Again (a politically incorrect joke)

This is almost entirely not music related. Emo’s will be offended. Read the rest of this entry »
