Bonnaroo 2008 Downloads

I can’t even pretend that I have time to try and keep track of all the Bonnaroo 2008 downloads this year. Fortunately, Largehearted Boy does have the time. So hit up his site for a frequently updated list of all the mp3, flac and other music downloads from this years hippie-metal fest. But I’d skip the Kanye set if it becomes available, unless you’re into crowds booing.

In totally unrelated news, I’ll be seeing Gov’t Mule + Bobby/Ratdog on Saturday, then just the Mule on Sunday. On the off chance I’m able to make it from Spokane, WA to Victoria, BC in 10′ish hours, I’ll be seeing Susan Tedeschi on Monday. Without question, I’ll be seeing her in Vancouver, on Tuesday. So 4 days, 4 shows, 4 cities. When it rains it pours. Tuesday or Wednesday you can expect some bad reviews, worse pictures and a tired version of Ross.

Not happy with iTunes?

Sorry about the lack of posts around here lately, I’ve been a bit busy working on my other site.. the one that pays (some of) the bills..

With that said, if you’re not entirely pleased with iTunes and would rather use something else to manage your iPod, check out 10 Alternatives to iTunes for managing your iPod. Cause choice is a good thing.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have about an hour and 40 min to put up a Mule Monday before it’s not Monday anymore.

Happy 4th

I’d like to wish all of my yank friends a Happy 4th of July. For your streaming audio pleasure the witty bastards over at Hidden Track have come up w/ a great list of shows all of which took place on July 4th . And if you’d like to do something really patriotic today, how about calling the Whitehouse and letting them know exactly how you feel about the war in Iraq, your dwindling freedoms, “Scooter” Libby getting pardoned and/or your completely corrupt health care system. Sure you’ll only get answering machines, but is that different than any other day?

Mule Monday: Mountain Jam 2007

One single screenshot/image can sum up how I spent the past weekend:

I don’t even want to try and figure out how many hours I spent sitting in front of my laptop, dreaming of being @ Mountain Jam. But I will say this (and repeat it a few times) - the webcast was absolutely genius. More on that later…

Gov’t Mule - Night I

Where to begin. How about with the opener - Radiohead’s “Creep”. What a way to start the show.. Next up was a retardedly good version of 32/20 Blues, and it just kept getting better. I swear the Set I closer, Blind Man In The Dark, was the best version of that song I’ve heard all year. This show is a must-buy MuleTracks purchase.

Gov’t Mule - Brighter Days
Gov’t Mule - No Quarter

Gov’t Mule - Night II

I really didn’t believe that they would be able to top the first night. Boy was I wrong. A couple of folks commented on the lack of sit-ins on the first night. Well Warren and the boys sure made up for that on the second night. Michael Franti joined them for Play With Fire, Jake Cinninger (Umphrey’s McGee) joined them on That’s What Love Will Make You Do, Ulises Bella and Asdru Sierra (Ozomatli) joined them on It’s A Man’s World and finally Josh Clark (Tea Leaf Green) joined them on Rockin’ In The Free World. This show isn’t a must-buy, it’s an absolutely-must-or-you’ll-regret-it-buy (MuleTracks)

Gov’t Mule - It’s a Mans World (with with Ulises Bella and Asdru Sierra)

New Orleans Social Club

For those not in-the-know, the New Orleans Social Club is a veritable who’s who of old-school New Orleans musicians. This time the lineup included George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli, Henry Butler, Ivan Neville and Raymond Weber.

Final thoughts

All of the MP3s in this post came from flacs converted to mp3, via etree. I would strongly encourage you to download the flac sources so that you’ll have a lossless copy. I’ve been keeping track of the Mountain Jam torrents on this post - so check it out. Also - show your support of a band who I repeatedly refer to as the most fan-friendly group of musicians of our time by purchasing these shows from MuleTracks. AND… the next time you see a Mule-taper, offer to buy them a beer. It’s really the least you can do…

Remote Digital Media was one of the groups involved in bringing this webcast to your computer. They did such a fantastic job that I felt obligated to send them all emails telling them as much. If I was ever put in the position of organizing some kind of live-web-event, Remote Digital Media would be my first phone call.

It wasn’t enough that Gov’t Mule gave us an inside look at creating their latest album, High & Mighty (via the In the Studio blog) - they’ve now taken it to the next level. A frequently updated Mountain Jam blog in addition to a free live webcast of the entire weekend. How many other bands put this kind of effort into their shows? Not very many come to mind. I don’t care how many old ladies I have to rob, how many banks I have to hold up (joke!) - I will be at next years Mountain Jam. See you there!

Help Save Internet Radio

I received this in my inbox this morning from the good folks at Pandora, and due to its nature, felt I had to share.

Hi, it’s Tim again,

I wanted to thank you again for your extraordinary support in the fight to save Internet radio and Pandora. Thanks to the overwhelming number of calls you made, letters you faxed, and emails you sent, the Internet Radio Equality Act is fast gaining momentum in the House of Representatives (74 sponsors and growing). It’s nothing short of remarkable for this to happen in such a brief period of time - almost unprecedented.

On Friday, May 11th, a Senate version of the bill was introduced by Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Sam Brownback (R-KS): . This is a promising development, but we need your help again. I know we’re asking a lot, but the stakes couldn’t be higher and the fight is not over.

Please call the offices of your Senators and ask them to co-sponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act, S. 1353

Senator Arlen Specter: (202) 224-4254
Senator Robert P. Casey: (202)224-6324

Visit www.savenetradio.org to keep up on our fight to save Internet radio. There are some powerful testimonials there from musicians who have found their audience through Internet radio.

We are deeply moved by your support. Thank you.
