Mule Monday: Belongs to Grace

I might find time later tonight to do a proper post, with some MP3s and stuff, but I’m actually really busy for a change. So in the meantime, watch this amazingly cool video. It’s a medley of stuff from Grace Potter & The Nocturnals current tour (Rochester, NY, Binghamton, NY, Washington, DC, Richmond, VA) with Gov’t Mule. And speaking of Gov’t Mule, Grace joins Warren (or vice versa I’m in a hurry and a bit too lazy to look it up right now) in the video below. So clickit.

OK when it’s done playing, watch Part I.

These videos are making me even more excited (and I have to tell you, with just about 24 hours to go, I’m already pretty antsy) to see GP&TN open for the Mule on back to back nights. With any luck this series will continue to the west coast part of the tour so I have a cool memento.

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - Ain’t No Time | Video

Filmed live @ the 8×10 in Baltimore, MD - here’s the latest Grace Potter and the Nocturnals video - Ain’t No Time -

ps. there’s a great high quality version of the video that you can run in full-screen.

pss. the band is currently out on tour supporting Gov’t Mule - be sure to arrive in time to catch them - I promise you’ll be floored.

My Morning Jacket - Anytime (Live @ ACL) | Video

I’ve been playing around with Quicktime - cutting videos into pieces, exporting to different formats but still decent quality etc. Here’s one of the results.

Yeah the video was taken down by YouTube. Silly copyright infringement nonsense.

Guess who’s back?

Conrad Oberg, 12 yr-old visually impaired, self taught piano and guitar player, performs the Jimi Hendrix classic, Little Wing (click that f’ing link). Conrad Oberg was born three and a half months prematurely in the Summer of 1994. Weighing only one and a half pounds at birth, Conrad was left with no eyesight in his left eye and only 15% of the vision in his right.

And at 12 he has more talent than most of us will in 5 lifetimes.

Pearl Jam to Release Italy DVD on Sept. 25

From pearljam.com/news:

Pearl Jam announces the release of Immagine Nel Telaio “Picture in a Frame”, a live concert film chronicling the band’s performances and behind-the-scenes footage from the five Italian concerts that took place as part of the band’s 2006 European tour. The cities include Bologna, Verona, Milan, Torino and Pistoia, Italy.

A limited edition commemorative T-shirt will be available for a special price when purchased with Immagine Nel Telaio here during a special pre-sale beginning August 22.

Immagine Nel Telaio was directed by renowned photographer, filmmaker and long-time friend of the band, Danny Clinch. The film was shot in a variety of formats from Super-8 to Hi Definition.

“Picture in a Frame is a film I’ve really wanted to make,” says Clinch. “The band invited me to Italy and gave me the access I needed to show a side seldom seen by their fans. It has become a collaboration as well. The band even offered me some music that has never been heard and Mike went into the studio to create some more music for the soundscapes. This is a look at Pearl Jam that no one has seen yet. A trip through northern Italy with the band, through the document and through abstraction.”

Up and coming: Corkscrew | Video and MP3s

Corkscrew may be new to the scene, but they are turning heads where ever they go. Already having supported legendary performers such as Dickie Betts, modern rock bands such as Live and Rose Hill Drive, future legends such as Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Corkscrew has honed their live act for the bigger stages to a fine tuned performance. Frank (lead and slide guitar) has even had the honor of performing with Robert Randolph and the Family Band!

Breaking out of the common Jam band formulas, they are part of the sub genre moving towards progressive musical jams with emphasis on songwriting and arrangements. Their covers are re-interpretations of the originals, rearranged for Corkscrew’s groove and used as platforms for their innovative improvisational expeditions. What is Corkscrew’s style, who do they sound like? Each member brings a distinct musical style to the amalgam that is Corkscrew. Their influences include: The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Allman Brothers, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Phil Lesh and Friends, Dream Theater, Frank Zappa, Gov’t Mule and many others.

Mule Monday: Bonnaroo 2007

Was there really any question that Bonnaroo would be the topic for this weeks Mule Monday? The only difficult part of this post was picking the songs to include. The guests were great (and plentiful), the setlist was sick, and there are a couple of recordings to choose from (see my very frequently updated list of Bonnaroo lossless-only downloads). Since I only have a few more min to get this up on Monday (hey it’s still Monday here on the west coast) - here goes -

Gov’t Mule w/ John Paul Jones - Livin’ Lovin’ Maid
Gov’t Mule - Brand New Angel
Gov’t Mule w/ Luther Dickinson - That’s What Love Will Make You Do
Gov’t Mule - Sweet Leaf > War Pigs

And what the heck, some video clips too -

Ben Harper with John Paul Jones - Dazed and Confused | Video

Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes - Remedy | Video

Don’t let the blur take away from an otherwise great pro-shot video. See more Page & Crowes vids here

Before The Music Dies | Video

Thanks to Partyin’ Peeps for this find :)

Before The Music Dies is a look at the sad state of affairs we call popular music these days.

And you can buy a DMR-free version of this move here for as low as $2.99. I’ll be buying this bad-boy as soon as Mountain Jam is over and I can spare the bandwidth.
